The Conference: Live @ Litiz 2024
For The Conference: Live @ Lititz 2024, I had the privilege of serving as the lighting designer for both Studio 1 and Studio 2. The Conference is committed to fostering the next generation of touring and live-event professionals by creating authentic opportunities to connect and grow as a community. It brings together over 1,000 industry professionals, offering engaging content and inclusive social experiences, all while supporting diverse voices and empowering individuals across the entertainment sector.
I was proud to be part of the talented team of designers and event planners putting this event together. These people were from leading companies in the production industry which included Tait, 4wall, Atomic Design, Clair Global, Fuse and Rock Litiz. We worked together to create a memorable lighting experience. In Studio 1, the main room, my lighting design featured over 310 lights as well as an MA3 lighting network provided by 4Wall. For this show I used an MA3 Full-Size console running the latest software (2.1.1.5). My lighting design incorporated a diverse range of fixtures which were used in creative and unique ways to achieve dynamic effects to support the conference’s various presentations and parties. One of the design goals that I faced was providing enough area lighting in the room. The event organizers wanted enough lighting during the presentations so that people could take notes, but also wanted to make sure the parties were lit in a fun and playful way. To accomplish this, I placed 44 Chauvet Color Strike M strobes around the venue.
In Studio 2, I managed a lighting setup with over 60 fixtures, controlled via an MA2-light console, with gear supplied by Stray Production Services. One of the goals in for this area was to provide unique lighting for each of the vendor and common area quadrants during the speakeasy event.
The design team used Vectorworks Spotlight 2024 to create detailed CAD drawings for the event. I loved using Vectorworks 2024 and 2025 to ensure that each element was perfectly mapped to enhance the atmosphere of the space. I took the time with each design iteration to use the Walk Through tool to view the lighting designs in their spaces. I wanted to make sure that my lighting design looked good from all angles and that each fixture was in a place that would accomplish my vision. I had fun working on putting meat on the bones that Tait and Atomic provided.
In addition to my role as lighting designer for this conference, I participated in a panel titled Designing in an Evolving Industry, alongside Adam Davis, CEO of Tait, Chris Medvitz, Principal at Lightswitch Design, Spike Brant of Nimblist, and Tamlyn Wright of Silent House. I was honored to be the voice on the panel representing the next generation of designers. We discussed sustainability from both an environmental and staffing perspective, our theories of design as well as the role of AI in shaping the future of design in the industry.
This project was a fantastic opportunity to contribute to an event that aims to make the industry a better place for all of us to work and make our careers in. I look forward to doing more work like this in the future.
